Wolong Nature Reserve - A haven for the Giant Pandas
Wolong Nature Reserve - A haven for the Giant Pandas
We cuddle enough those huge teddies almost everyday. So cozy are they, isn't it? In our heart somewhere we aspire how it would be if we have this huge creature to cuddle for in reality. Well, that is possible but for that one needs to travel to Wolong Panda reserve in the east of Mt Qionglai. It is just a stones throw away from Chengdu in China. A fairy tale reserve encompassed in an area of 200,000 hectares (i.e 494,200 acres). This Panda reserve boasts having lots of real Teddy bears. Oh no! We mean Giant Pandas. The Wolong Natural reserve had its inception in the year 1963 and is said to be the earliest and the largest Panda reserve in the world. The Wolong Panda Reserve is home to 150 Pandas  which is managed by the China conservation and research center. Wolong prides of being the world leader in propagating the conservation of this endangered species of Pandas. Tourists visiting here go merry making with the companionship of these huge Teddies. The mice like Panda babies are the centre of attraction and the most photographed of all. These Herbivorous genre is one of the national treasures of China as well as the world. This giant bear  is also a goodwill ambassador. Wolong National Natural Reserve is a Narnia land for tourists, scientists and the explorers. This natural reserve treasures rich biodiversity. Some exemplars of its natural glory are that of 101 mountains which are above 5,000 meters(16,400 feet)  which showcases nature's splendid beauty. The best part of this natural reserve is that tourists by donating a humble amount can name a baby Panda with the name of their choice. But devastation fell upon these giant Teddies on May12th 2008 in the form of a massive earthquake which rendered them to be partially homeless. Therefore for security and care these giant Pandas were transferred to the Bifeng Gorge Base of China Panda Protection and Research Center. The Bifeng Gorge base is just an hour distance from Chengdu in China. The Pandas are said to stay in this place till their old home is refurnished again and the restoration work is in process. These giant Bears would come back to their original home after it is repaired. But the best part is that the Pandas are said to be in the best of their health in their new home and good news keeps on pouring every now and then. As was the case in the morning of July 6th 2008 a Panda named Guo Guo gave birth to the first twin cubs in the base. While she arrived in the base she was said to be in a very crucial stage of pregnancy of 119 days. She is said to be the icon for other Pandas surviving such a destructive earthquake, overpowering all the adversities and adapting to the new environment. The twin Pandas were the first pair of giant pandas born world wide in 2008. By the end of 2008 there were 13 baby Pandas being born in the Bifeng Gorge base.
